DRESS CODE ITEMS ENFORCED AT SAMUEL CLEMENS HIGH SCHOOL
Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels) The district’s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
Tops:
- Halter tops, exposed midriffs, strapless and/or low cut tops that expose breasts or cleavage, exposed backs, spaghetti straps and see-through clothing are not permitted.
- Undergarments shall not be visible or exposed.
- Off the shoulder tops are not permitted.
Footwear:
- Appropriate footwear is required. No house-shoes.
- Footwear that has toes and/or soles reinforced with steel, hard plastic or similar materials is prohibited.
- Footwear with wheels is prohibited.
Shorts, Dresses, Skirts, Skorts and Split-Skirts:
- Shorts will be permitted provided that the shorts are neatly hemmed and must be no more than three (3) inches above the knee.
- Dresses, skirts, skorts and split-skirts will be permitted provided that they are no more than three (3) inches above the knee.
- Excessively high slits are not permitted.
Pants:
- Pants shall be worn securely at the waist.
- Sagging, the practice of wearing extremely loose or baggy pants below the waist is prohibited.
- Undergarments shall not be visible or exposed.
- Holes in jeans above the knee are prohibited if skin is exposed.
- Leggings/jeggings/yoga pants, etc., must have an item of clothing worn over the material that covers the bottom when sitting and standing.
- Pajama pants of any type are prohibited.
Headwear:
- All types of hats, forehead bands, bandanas, etc., are not permitted inside school.
- Caps may be worn outside of the building.
Hair:
- Must be clean and well groomed.
- Hair may not be a disruption to the learning environment.
Body Piercings: May not present a disruption to the learning environment.
General Dress Code Information:
- Clothing and visible tattoos and similar body painting(s) that promote violence or reflect gang activity are prohibited.
- Clothing and visible tattoos and similar body painting(s) that are considered offensive, inflammatory or disruptive to the learning environment are prohibited.
- This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, inappropriate advertising or statements that are offensive or inflammatory, alcoholic beverages, profanity, sex, tobacco, drugs, gangs, guns and other weapons, excessively violent or gory imagery, and the promotion of violence and death.
If there is ever a time you have a personal reason that causes you to be out of dress code, please contact your administrator as soon as possible. He/she will notify the appropriate staff members to help you through the day and, if necessary, help you with your circumstance.
