Independent Reading

  • Independent Reading

It is my hope that students develop an appreciation for sustained independent reading as learners in my classroom. I believe that students need opportunities to select appropriate books of interest. I also believe that students should have time in class to practice sustained silent reading.

In order to support the skills we learn in class, I use Independent Reading Records. Essentially, students are matching skills taught in class with authentic reading. This Independent Reading Record also helps to ensure that students are not abandoning books too often, choosing inappropriate books, or choosing not to complete books in a timely manner. One handout needs to be completed every two week period.

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns! :)
