SSI Information/Promotion to 6th grade
This is an SSI year (Student Success Initiative). This means that there are more stringent requirements for promotion to 6th grade. Your
child must meet all of the following requirements.
1. Your child must pass the Reading and Math STAAR test. (There will be 2 opportunities during the school year and a third following mandatory summer school.)
2. Your child must pass at least 3 of their 4 core subjects (ELA, Math, SS, Science) based on their end of year average.
3. Your child’s core average must be at least a 70%. For example, if your child’s end of year averages are 70, 70, 70, and 60, then their overall average is a 68%. Although in this scenario they did pass 3 out of 4 core subjects, since their core average is below a 70%, they would not be promoted to 6th grade.
**Attendance can be a consideration for promotion as well. We want your child at school every day, on time and prepared to be successful. Administration can give more information about attendance requirements. Please let me know if you have any questions about these state required guidelines for promotion to 6th grade.
