College Readiness Assessments
The assessments below are administered at SCUCISD campuses:
Students in grades 8 and 10 are eligible to take the PSAT in October. No registration is required, and the PSAT is given at no cost. The PSAT is a predictor of a student's score on the SAT, and students may use the results of the PSAT to identify strengths and weaknesses in preparation for a higher score on the SAT. The top achieving students on the PSAT 10 are eligible to take the PSAT/NMSQT in 11th grade to earn scholarships through the National Merit program.
SAT and ACT
Students are encouraged to take either the ACT or the SAT (or both) during the spring of their Junior year or the fall of their senior year. SCUCISD juniors are eligible to take the School Day SAT on March 2, 2022. No registration is required, and the SAT is given at no cost. There are additional SAT and ACT Saturday testing opportunities, however, these do require registration and an exam fee.
The district offers six SAT preparation sessions throughout the year. Each session costs $50, however, there are need based scholarships available to help with the session fees. In addition, all students in the district have free access to Khan Academy. Khan Academy is an online individualized preparation program that allows students to practice at their own pace, first filling in gaps in their understanding and then accelerating their learning. These personalized learning recommendations are created based on students' past test results (e.g. PSAT/NMSQT or SAT).
The Texas Success Initiative Assessment 2.0 (TSIA2) is a series of placement tests for students enrolling in public colleges and universities in Texas. The tests help Texas schools determine whether students are ready for college-level courses in the areas of reading, writing, and math. Students who choose to participate in the Dual Credit program through Alamo Colleges are required to pass the TSIA2 exam prior to beginning coursework.
