• 2nd Grade Curriculum

Reading: This year, our district has adopted a new Language Arts program called Fountas & Pinnell Literacy. This program incorporates guided, shared and independent reading. 2nd Grade is where we transition our students from “learning to read” to “reading to learn”. You will see that reading has its own grade on the report card.

Language Arts: The 4 areas of Language Arts are Spelling, Phonics, Grammar, and Writing. Phonics and Spelling are 50% of their grade. Writing and Grammar will make up the other 50%.

Math: In Math, we incorporate various programs that will help your child be successful in the 2nd Grade Math TEKS.

Sciences: Social Studies and Science will be taught between 2:00 PM and dismissal each day. Each subject has it’s own grade on the report card.

** I have included links to our district pacing calendar on my Teacher Webpage.

  • Homework

Playbook” Folder: (sent home daily) This will contain important information and forms. Please review/ sign daily. There may be a day of Math and a few Spelling work during the week. In addition, a Weekly Newsletter will give you an overview of the week.

Reading Log: (read and sign daily and return on Fridays) Please read with your child for at least 90 minutes per week, or what is indicated on the Reading Log. Part of their Reading Homework will be their Log along with a Reading Choice Board to choose an activity to turn in on Fridays. This demonstrates accountability in their reading.

*My mission is not to overload your kiddo with work however, I also want there to be opportunities for practice beyond the classroom. If it is ever a problem, please contact me so we can make this manageable for your kiddo.*

  • Grading Policy
