Bachelor of Music-Music Theatre Master of Music-Vocal Performance & Pedagogy Master of Arts in Teaching-Elementary Education ESL Certification GT Certification
Hello! Welcome to my page! My name is Scott Flanagan, and I am excited to be a 4th grade teacher at Cibolo Valley Elementary! This is my first year here, but I have teaching experience at the collegiate and elementary levels. I am excited to explore, learn, and have fun this year teaching all subjects. My favorite subject is math, and I love having opportunities to read to my students as well.
I have an extensive background in music (opera, music theatre, sacred music, art song, and more), and am a professional vocalist. I have performed in numerous professional productions and given vocal recitals that included songs in multiple languages. I had the honor of performing on Texas Public Radio’s KPAC Broadcast, “Remembrance Day Service” in November of 2016. As of late, I mostly sing at my church. As much as I love music, I also love teaching.
I have known since high school that I wanted to be a teacher. My incredible high school math teacher gave me opportunities to teach the class and support my peers. I remember this overwhelming feeling of happiness to see my classmates be successful, and many of them asked me to tutor them in math after school. Since then, I have always been teaching a variety of subjects. Last year, I was the Talented and Gifted Teacher of my campus for grades K-5.
In my opinion, it is important for a teacher to teach how a student learns instead of a student learning how a teacher teaches. One of my lifelong goals is to continue to better myself as a professional and educator. I have learned so many things about myself and teaching over the past twelve years, and I am excited to put that experience to good use this year.
