• Are there Library fines?

Not for overdue books!  Books are generally due the next time the student goes to the Library. If the books are not returned, the student cannot check out. Overdue notes are sent out periodically.

IMPORTANT: Although I teach the students to take responsibility with their library books, the parent is financially responsible for lost, stolen, damaged books. If at any time, you wish for you child to refrain from checking out books, please contact the library right away.

What happens if a book gets lost?

If a student/parent believes a book to be lost, please let the librarian know immediately.  Sometimes books do not get scanned back in, for whatever reason.  They may believed to be lost, when in fact, they are sitting on the shelf in the library.  Making the librarian aware of the issue may be an easy solution.

If, in fact, the book is lost or stolen, it needs to be paid for, so that a replacement book can be purchased to take its place.

What happens if a book is damaged?

We discuss in great detail about the care of library books. (Please see the left for book care tips.) However, accidents happen.

Please have your child talk to the librarian as soon as possible.

If the book has minor damage, such as a torn page or some writing in it, a fine will not be issued. However, if the book is beyond repair, then it will need to be paid for.

    How much do books cost?

Book costs vary, depending on the amount that it takes for the library to replace it, usually from around $10 to $30.

*NOTE: When a student has an outstanding fine for a lost or damaged book, s/he may not check out until the fine is paid.

I understand library books are expensive. Payment plans can be arranged if that helps with payment. Please let me know if you have problems paying for a library book. Unfortunately, books purchased from a store cannot be accepted.

What happens if the lost book is found?

Students who find a book after it has been paid for will receive a refund as long as the book is in the same condition as it was when it was first checked out.  Refunds will be issued up until the last day of the school year.
