Culinary Arts class is for students who have taken Nutrition class and have an interest in food or a desire for a career in the restaurant, tourism or hospitality industry.
Students will earn a Food Handlers certificate and study the Serv Safe program - a national food safety program.
To gain practical experience, students will prepare food products for sale to students and teachers. A student-run restaurant called the "Buffalo Bistro" opened in the Spring of 2009 and provides real -world experience as students plan, prepare and serve in our private dining room.
Professional attire is required for this class, as our students will be competing outside of school to gain recognition and scholarship money.
Culinary Schools and Universities will visit the classroom to provide information on post secondary culinary schools.
For service learning, we partner with the Greater Randolph Area Services Program to help with their food pantry.
Professional guest chefs are scheduled to share thier knowledge and teach skills.
Students have the opportunity to join FCCLA - Family, Career and Community Leaders of America - a national leadership group that offers competitions, scholarships, travel opportunities and leadership training.
Please note that students must be passing all classes in order to attend competitions.
